WAHVE - Words to Work byWe all have scribbled-on post-it notes with words that inspire, or random pieces of paper with sayings that reinvigorate our attitude. People naturally gravitate toward motivational quotes because they provide perspective.

“Quotes are cheesy!” you might say. Right, sometimes they’re a little over-the-top. But having a few go-to words to fuel your workday can’t be the worst thing for your productivity. These “words to work by” are important for many reasons, but the primary reason is that it acts as a point redirection for those days you’re lagging. Because, as we all know, the way you feel at work can profoundly influence how you perform.

When working from home, it can be helpful to have a go-to mantra or two to aid concentration. For those days when you’re running on empty, or, on the flipside, you’re trying to go above and beyond, choose one of these mantras to put a pep in your step:

  • “Make it happen.”

Start each day with a list of intentions and goals, and check them off throughout the day. No matter how small the wins are, making your to-do list a “to-done” list can fill you with a sense of achievement.

  • “Every day is different.”

If you identify with this mantra, you treat every day like a new opportunity. You’ve been there, done that with the 9-5 routine, and you know the beauty in being a wahver is making each day a little different.

  • “Do what works for you.”

No matter what line of work you’re in, the perfect formula that works for you is the most important thing you can find. You’re already more than halfway there, with your decision to become a wahver! If you’re working on a team, it can also be helpful to establish this with your collaborators. As long as the final output is exceeding expectations, the process of getting there can be adaptable to team members’ strengths.

  • “A little at a time.”

When you’re balancing multiple projects at once (or a lot of pressure is riding on one), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. This mantra can help make chipping away at each task seem a little more manageable.

  • “Work smarter, not harder.”

Nowadays some people wear “busy” as a badge. If you identify with this mantra, you value efficiency, and believe that working well doesn’t necessarily always mean working more.

  • “Stay flexible.”

You know that remaining open to learning from different sources, different people, and through different channels can really boost your creativity. Reminding yourself to pivot a little when the challenge calls for it can make all the difference in producing a better result.

So, wahver, what’s your remote working mantra?
